FAI PRESIDENT AT THE 9TH EUROPEAN PARAGLIDING CHAMPIONSHIP

On Saturday 1st July 2006, the FAI President Pierre PORTMANN attended the Opening Ceremony of the 9th FAI European Paragliding Championship.

FAI President Pierre PORTMANN welcomed the 140 pilots who had arrived from 28 countries to compete in Morzine-Avoriaz under brilliant sunshine. He especially thanked the organizing committee for their excellent work in setting up this Championship, and wished all participants a successful competition.

The first task was held on Sunday 2 July, and was won by the current European Champion Christian MAURER (SUI).

LE PRESIDENT FAI AU CHAMPIONNAT D'EUROPE DE PARAPENTE

Le samedi 1er juillet 2006, le Président de la FAI Pierre PORTMANN a participé à la cérémonie d'ouverture du 9ème Championnat d'Europe FAI de parapente.

Sous un soleil éclatant, le Président Pierre PORTMANN a souhaité la bienvenue aux 140 pilotes accourus à Morzine-Avoriaz de 28 pays différents. Il a tout particulièrement remercié le comité d'organisation de l'excellent travail réalisé pendant la préparation de ce championnat, et a souhaité plein succès à tous les concurrents.

La première épreuve de vol s'est déroulée le dimanche 2 juillet et fut remportée par le champion d'Europe en titre, Christian MAURER (SUI).

CIMP PLENARY MEETING

The FAI Medico-Physiological Commission (CIMP) held its Annual Plenary Meeting on 17 and 18 June 2006 in Lausanne (SUI).

Delegates from 13 countries discussed a wide range of medical topics affecting fitness to fly. A major part of the meeting was devoted to case studies. There were wide divergences in the way that particular medical conditions were treated for licensing purposes in different countries. CIMP agreed that the role of medical practitioners should be to enable as many people as possible to fly safely.

Elections
Dr R. Peter SAUNDBY (GBR) was re-elected as CIMP President, Dr Phivos CHRISTOPHIDES (CYP), Dr Bernhard SCHOBER (AUT) and Dr Kazuhito SHIMADA (JPN) as Vice Presidents, and Dr Jürgen KNÜPPEL (GER) as Secretary. (Click here for the full List of CIMP Officers and Delegates).
