The sun pops out at Popham

2016 08_23_CIMA_Wolfgang_Lintl_4The 2016 FAI World Microlight and Paramotor Championships in the UK shook off the weekend’s rain showers yesterday and got stuck into the competition.

In the paramotoring, pilots completed a navigation task with precision landing. In the navigation part of the task, worth 1,000 points, France’s Alex Mateos took pole position.

However, he scored a flat zero for the precision landing element, which meant he finished in sixth place overall.

Instead, Chayaphong Pothipuk from Thailand took the lead, scoring a respectable 840 in the navigation, and a maximum 250 for the precision landing.

In the Women’s category, Marie Mateos won the day, while in the Trikes category, France’s Thomas Petit topped the table.

In the Microlight competition, pilots continued to fly tasks spread across five different categories. Tasks so far have included short take-off, spot landing and a limited fuel turnpoint hunt.
