FAI President John Grubbström flew to Asia this week to visit the 3rd Asian Beach Games in Haiyang, CHN.
The main purpose of the President’s trip was to visit the Powered Paragliding (Paramotoring) event, part of the official programme of the Games, which was taking place on the beach next to the Yellow Sea.
The competition is run over 4 days to determine champions in Precision, Economy and Combined disciplines and is an excellent platform to show off the adrenaline‐filled sport of Paramotoring.
The President took full advantage of other opportunities to mix with representatives from the Olympic Council of Asia as well as other National Olympic Committees from the region. Air sports benefit from great popularity in Asia, a fact underlined by the involvement of eleven different nations in the Paramotoring event and the very high standard of flying on show.
The President was quoted as saying: "I am delighted to be able to visit the Asian Beach Games and to witness for myself all of the different events. The organisation on the part of the Chinese is quite amazing and the competitors are thoroughly enjoying the intense yet very friendly competition. We are delighted to bring air sports to the Games and appreciate very much the warm welcome and great interest being shown by all those who visit the competition site."
The Asian Beach Games run from 16-22 June. For reports on the Paramotoring event, visit the FAI/CIMA website or the official Asian Beach Games website.
