The Delegates of the FAI Members gathered in

Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to attend the 109th FAI

General Conference organised on 25 and 26 September

2015 by the Royal Netherlands Aeronautical Association.

The Sessions were preceded by the 2015 FAI Awards

Ceremony, where the prestigious FAI and FAI-Breitling

Awards were presented to the recipients.

H.E. Yousif Al Hammadi, Director of the FAI World Air

Games Dubai 2015, brought the torch of the event to

the Conference and updated the Delegates on the

preparations for the competition.

For the first time, workshops were held before the

Sessions to allow the attendees to learn and discuss

about selected topics such as Anti-doping and IT services.

SPORTS AND BRANDING STRATEGY

The Executive Board presented the “FAI 2020” concept

which includes a reviewand refining of the FAI Brand aswell

as a strategy to further develop air sports in all aspects.

PROJECTS

Reports on different projects were made during the

Conference. They included:

Organiser Agreement

The new Organiser Agreement under development

will be rolled out in 2016.

FAI World Air Games Dubai 2015

Everyone’s motivation was very high to make sure

this competition would be a great success and a

milestone event for air sports. It would be a great

opportunity for FAI to build on this success to further

develop media and public friendly multi-sports

competitions.

Marketing and Communication

FAI is now communicating regularly in several

languages to report on competitions and activities,

to celebrate aeronautic or astronautic record

anniversaries, and to make announcements. Special

efforts were made to increase the promotion

of selected events, which included audiovisual

production and distribution.

Regional Management System

East & South Asia Regional Vice President Tengku

Abdillah fromMalaysia reported on the development

of air sports in the region.

FAI Anti-Doping Programme

A new World Anti-Doping Code was implemented on

the 1st January 2015 but with no major change for FAI.

Membership survey

Results of a first round of surveys were shown. More

detailed results of the survey will be presented to the

Conference in 2016.

Multi-sport events

Multi-sports events such as The World Games 2017 in

Wroclaw, Poland, and the Asian Beach Games will be

a perfect playground to showcase air sports.

Commissions and OSTIV

Each Commission President reported on the

activities of their sports and field and highlighted the

main challenges they are currently facing, as well as

their objectives for the future.

APPOINTMENT OF COMPANIONS OF HONOUR

OPEN FORUM

Several Delegates cameuponstage toshare their experience

or provide information on various topics. Bruno Delor

explained the newchallenges stemming fromthe activities

of drones; Gr. Captain Veerayuth Didyasarin presented the

project for the establishment of the Air Sports Federation

of Asia (AFA); Sergey Ananov gave a vivid account of his

attempt to circumnavigate the globe in a helicopter, which

abruptly ended after it crashed into the sea between

Canada and Greenland.

FINANCE

The FAI Executive Director (Finance) reported on the 2014

Financial Statements and theGeneral Conference adopted

the Auditor’s Report for the year 2014. Later, the Delegates

also approved the budget for FAI operations in 2016.

All details on the FAI finances, including the report of the

FAI auditors Price Waterhouse Coopers, are set out in

the Minutes of the General Conference and available as

annexes to the Minutes.

ELECTIONS

There were no elections in 2015, except for the Statutes

WorkingGroup andActiveMembersRepresentatives on the

FAI Air Sport General Commission CASI (France, Germany,

Hong Kong, Switzerland, United Kingdom).

FUTURE GENERAL CONFERENCES

The next FAI General Conference will take place from14 to

15October 2016 in Bali, Indonesia. The host of the 111th FAI

General Conference in 2017will be decided at a later stage.
