SWOOPING IN

Canopy Piloting, or Swooping, is spectacular

to watch. Parachutists spiral down to the

Swooping pond at high speed, then flare and

bleed off speed, converting it to distance.

There were six disciplines in Canopy Piloting

at the Games: Accuracy, Combined, Distance,

Freestyle, Speed and Team.

WATER WINGS

Yuri Garmachov, fromRussia, swoops in during

the Freestyle round. Competitors hit speeds of

up to 160km/h on approach to the water.
