solar, hydrogen and hybrid energy are huge and the FAI
Amateur-built and Experimental Aircraft Commission
is studying how they might lead to new and exciting
competitions and records. To keep up-to-date with the
rapid changes in this field, the Commission has been
working in 2014 on modifying the sections of the Sporting
Code under its control, Section 11 (Human-Powered
Aircraft) and Section 13 (Solar-Powered Aircraft).
AMATEUR-BUILT AND EXPERIMENTAL COMMUNITY
The Commission is striving via the FAI Members to connect
with experimental and amateur-built associations in all
countries and continents topromote its activitiesworldwide
and create a real community of enthusiasts with similar
interests.
COMPETITIONS
TheDelegates agreed to focus on air sports activitieswhich
are the most exciting, spectator-friendly and likely to be
covered by media, such as electrical and solar-powered.
The Commission is examining the different processes
leading to exact definitions of disciplines for competitions,
creating and maintaining the class structure, monitoring
the quality of sanctioned events and sending officials to
these events.
It is also collaborating with other Air Sports Commissions
on new racing concepts including for experimental aircraft.
RECORDS
TheCommissionhasbeenworkingonupdatingSection 11and
13 of the Sporting Code to accommodate record attempts
involving aircraft flyingwithout fuel. As technology evolves,
it is expected to see an increasing number of suchambitious
projects in the future.
MEETING
The Annual Meeting of the Commission was held in
Friedrichshafen, Germany, on 13 April 2014.
