to modernise its events, entice more and younger pilots
to compete, and attract increasing attention from the
media and public with fun and easy to understand
competition formats. Particular care was taken in
the General Aviation’s flagship competition, the Air
Navigation Race, whose rules and regulations are now
fully deployed. Beside these ongoing projects, the
Commission started to study the potential for developing
air races.
CHAMPIONSHIP
−− 19th FAI World Rally Flying Championship
in Torun (POL)
→ PHOTOSThis Championship was carried out very successfully at
a high level of Rally Flying. 56 crews from 17 countries
participated in this event. 22 crews competed in the
Unlimited and 34 crews in the Advanced Category.
8 countries presented 11 mixed crews.
RALLY FLYING
The recent introduction of the Advanced and Unlimited
Classes inRally Flyinghas nowfully born fruit, inaccordance
with theCommission’splans. On theonehand, theAdvanced
Class attracts an increasing number of new male and
female competitors, as well as of nations. It was a great
satisfaction to have women stepping onto the podium in
both individual and teamcategories. On the other hand and
logically, the Unlimited Class retains its top level status
as the most demanding competition, with requirements
increasing every year.
AIR NAVIGATION RACE (ANR)
Created in 2012, the Air Navigation Race is now ready and
fully developed, and its software is available for everyone
to download.
Easy to understand for the pilots, the media and the
spectators alike, this type of parallel slalom for two to
four planes with competition rounds from quarter finals
onwards is promised to have a great future. So much so
that it has been selected to be on the programme of the
FAI World Air Games Dubai 2015.
