Hang Gliding and Paragliding have for many years been

enjoying an exceptional popularity amongst all age

categories. New and creative energies are flooding

into this air sports community, which explains the

continuously booming activity of the FAI Hang Gliding

and Paragliding Commission in 2014. The number of FAI-

sanctioned events remained high with 300 competitions.

Innovative, yet simple and easily applicable measures to

increase safety have been introduced and publicised in

the pilot community through online information, advice

and education.

CIVL WORLD RANKING SYSTEM (WPRS)

One of the Commission’smost useful successes is the CIVL

World Ranking System, a uniformand user-friendly online

platform that can be used by the different disciplines of

Hang Gliding and Paragliding. Pilots can enter and update

their own personal information. At the end of 2014, over

8,000 pilots from68 nations were registered and ranked in

eight main categories (each of themhaving subcategories

of World, Continent and Women).

SAFETY

The new CIVL Competition Class Paragliders (CCC) was

voted on and approved at the Commission’s meeting in

February. The competition season showed that these

are nowwell accepted by the pilots and event organisers.

The Commission also worked on the development of the

educational section on the FAI website dedicated to safety.

MEETING

The Annual Meeting of the Commission took place on

22 and 23 February 2014 in Bali, Indonesia.

“Hang and Paragliding
