The Red Bull Air Race World Championship and the FAI
have been partners since 2005. In 2014 they signed a new
agreement re-confirming the FAI’s international recognition
of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship.
Followed by millions of fans around the world, the Red
Bull Air Race World Championship features some of the
world’s best race pilots in a pure motorsport competition
that combines speed, precision and skill. Pilots use the
fastest, most agile and lightweight racing planes like the
Edge 540 v3 to navigate a low-level aerial racetrack of
air-filled pylons (air gates) with the aim of finishing in the
fastest time possible, with the least amount of penalties.
As well as sanctioning the races and approving the race
rules and regulations, the FAI supports the Red Bull Air
Race with a dedicated FAI Safety Delegate at each race,
and provides specially designed medals.
The race series also touched down in Japan, Hungary,
Austria, Germany, theUKand Indianapolis (USA). Germany’s
Matthias Dolderer won the overall Red Bull Air RaceWorld
Championship and will aim to defend his title in 2017.
