The ingredientswhicharedeemednecessary for thesuccess

of the FAI World Air Games can and must also be used on

a smaller scale at our

championships

. Obviously, Event

Organiser Committees have a crucial role to play when it

comes to the successful unfolding of the competitions and

themediaexposure. However at least twoother stakeholders

must act their parts: the Air Sports Commissions, to

ensure that the competition formats of their sports are

competitive, fair, safe and media and spectator friendly.

And the Head Office, who together with the Commissions,

works as the centre of support for the event organisers

and also ensures efficient knowledge transfer across the

years and the sports.

I take this opportunity to reiteratemy welcome to our

new

Members

: the African Air Sports Federation, the Arab Air

Sports Federation, the Portuguese Free Flight Federation

(Federação Portuguesa de Voo Livre) and Segelflugszene

gGmbH. Their applications were approved at the 108th FAI

General Conference in Pattaya, Thailand. Thank you Royal

Aeronautic Sports Association of Thailand for excellent

arrangements!

During that same event I had the honour of being re-elected

and saw the

nominations

of three newExecutive Directors,

Agust Gudmundsson, Niels-Christian Levin Hansen and

Gillian Rayner – the first woman in this position. About

time! This comes along with the appointment of our new

Secretary General, Susanne Schödel and the Sports and

Marketing Director Markus Haggeney earlier in the year.

Our warmest gratitude goes to the past Finance Director

Robert Clipsham and Executive Directors Otto Lagarhus

andBeat Neuenschwander, aswell as to our past Secretary

General Jean-Marc Badan andSports Director RobHughes

for their contributions over the years.

In the renewed FAI leadership we have wonderful and

immense

challenges and opportunities

in front of us, and I

amconfident that wewill tackle themwell together with the

Event Organisers, the Sport Commissions, the volunteers,

our corporate partners and the Head Office staff. I thank

you warmly for all for your time, dedication and support.
