Created in 2003, the Red Bull Air Race has been followed
by millions of fans at over 50 races held worldwide. The
RedBull Air RaceWorld Championship features theworld’s
best race pilots in a pure motor-sport competition that
combines speed, precision and skill. The pilots use the
fastest,most agile and lightweight racing planes tonavigate
a predefined, low-level aerial racetrack of air-filled pylons
(air gates) with the aim of finishing in the fastest time
possible, incurring as few penalties as possible.
The FAI is delighted to have been the partner of such a
thrilling and successful series as the Red Bull Air Race
since 2005. According to the agreement between both
parties, the Federation provides FAI medals especially
designed for the Red Bull Air Race; all races are included
in the FAI Events Calendar; and the FAI officially approves
the raceRules&Regulations. Furthermore, an FAI Delegate
attends all events to supervise safety aspects.
In 2014, the season of the Red Bull Air Race World
Championship featured eight locations spanning three
continents. The series started in Abu Dhabi (United Arab
Emirates), followed by stops in Rovinj (Croatia), Putrajaya
(Malaysia), Gdynia (Poland), Ascot (UnitedKingdom), Dallas/
Forth Worth (USA) and Las Vegas (USA) ending with the
finale in Spielberg (Austria).
