The FAI is proud to haveBreitling, the specialist of technical
watches, as its official sponsor. Since the beginning of the
partnership in 2012, two prestigious FAI-Breitling Awards
have been established, and Breitling has brought its full
branding and support to selectedFAI world championships.
FAI-BREITLING AWARDS
The Breitling Youngster Award is reserved for a youngster
who, during the previous 12 months and before the date
of his 26th birthday:
−− Achieved an outstanding sporting performance.
This means a performance which is considered
by the nominating authority as beyond the normal
level of performance compared to what can usually
be done, or
−− Excelled in a certain area of his sport and
is considered as a reference, or
−− Significantly contributed to the development
and promotion of aeronautics or astronautics.
This award was given to Ryan Campbell from Australia
for successfully completing a solo flight around the world
in 2013, at the age of 19 years. It was presented by FAI
President Dr. John Grubbström at the Awards Ceremony
of the FAI General Conference, in the presence of Monika
Pieren from Breitling and World Champion of Aerobatics
Aude Lemordant from France (see
pages 34–35 ).
The BreitlingMilestone Trophy is reserved for an individual
or a group of individuals having achieved a significant
milestone, technological step forward or invention in
aeronautics or astronautics (first flight, new technology,
etc.) during the previous year, which might contribute
to future developments, especially in the practice of air
sports. It was not awarded for the year 2014.
COMPETITIONS
In 2014, the following Category 1 events were granted
support and branding by Breitling:
−− 5th FAI World Sailplane Grand Prix Gliding
Championship in Sisteron (FRA)
−− 11th FAI World Advanced Aerobatic
Championships in Dubnica nad Vahom (SVK)
−− 58th Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett
in Vichy (FRA)
−− 2nd FAI Junior World Hot Air Balloon
Championship (FRA)
