Main decisions taken at the FAI Ballooning Commission 2014 Annual Meeting

The 2014 Annual Meeting of the FAI Ballooning Commission (CIA) was held on 21 and 22 March 2014 in Lausanne, Switzerland. 

Here are the main decisions that were taken during the meeting:

Future competitions

The organisation of the following competition has been awarded:

2016

• 22nd FAI World Hot Air Balloon Championship   
  Awarded to Saga (Japan)
  30 Oct to 07 Nov 2016

The Delegates applauded the detailed bids and presentations from two of the World’s most renowned organisers, Saga (Japan) and Albuquerque (USA). Both had been host cities for the Hot Air Balloon World Championship in the past.
The two host cities had been represented by strong delegations underpinning the dedication, willingness and capability to stage this great event.
Delegates very much appreciated these strong efforts for the future of ballooning and air sports in general.

Test Events will be compulsory for World and Continental Championships unless the organiser has recent and equivalent Category 1 experience (to be applied to events sanctioned in 2015).

Sporting Code changes

Other amendments will be included in the 2014 Version of Sporting Code Section 1.

Awards

The 2013 Mongolfier Ballooning Diploma (Major Contribution to the Development of the Sport of Ballooning) was awarded to Stella Roux Devillas from France.

Hall of Fame

The inductees for 2013 are:

• Janne Balkedal (SWE)
• Umberto Nobile (ITA) - posthumous

Youth camp

The Delegates agreed to support the 14th International Youth Camp with a donation of 2000 Euros to assist in the promotion and operation of the camp. The camp will take place in Radesin, Czech Republic, from 2 to 9 August 2014.
