EAC Update #19 – 11 September 2010

The sky was blue again this morning and forecast was for beautiful weather. After briefing at 09.00, the warm-up pilots were in the air – this time Pierre Varloteaux and Kathel Boulanger carried out these duties. Pilot #1 was Renaud Ecalle of France. Unfortunately, pilot #5, Hanspeter Rohner, had an incident on landing and nosed up his CAP 232 and the contest was stopped just before noon. The good news is the Hanspeter is OK and not injured. The contest is now on hold awaiting the arrival of CAA officials from Prague.

The Jury and the Contest Director have discussed the situation and an announcement will be made at a 14.00 briefing. Aside from this sad news, we are happy to congratulate the new 2010 European Aerobatic Champion, Renaud Ecalle. The results from Programme 2 became final this morning. European Women’s Champion is Elena Klimovich of Russia. Both are repeating victories they won in Silverstone last year. Team Russia took the Gold in the team competition, followed by France and Great Britain. Renaud will take home the Strössenreuther Trophy. Team Russia will be awarded the Darius and Girenas Trophy. Closing ceremonies and awards are tonight at the Hotel Klaster Tepla. More news soon….
