EAC Update #20 - 11 September 2010

Programme 4 was canceled today due to the landing incident. Our good friend, Hanspeter Rohner of Switzerland, is in fine condition and uninjured and attended the closing ceremonies tonight at the Hotel Klaster Tepla. Thus, the EAC came to a close with Programmes Q, the Free, and the Free Unknown completed. It was a great contest -- due to the hard work of a lot of people. The Contest Director, Tom Korinek, the local organizers of the Aero Club of Touzim (headed by Jaroslav Blajez), and all of the international contest officials who come in from all over Europe and elsewhere to make it happen -- Judges, Jury, scoring, and so on.

Renaud Ecalle continues his march of collecting FAI and CIVA Gold Medals in every contest he flies and without doubt, is one of the finest aerobatic pilots of all time. Elena Klimovich repeated her victory in Silverstone last year and captured the Women's European title. A great performance. It is always a bit sad when these events end, as we say our goodbyes, pack our luggage, and take the transport back to Prague or wherever we are headed. But it won't be long and many of us with gather again for another Championships next year -- and of course, the CIVA meeting itself which is coming up in November in Oberhausen, Germany. I wish everyone a safe trip home. Below is a picture of me, Tom Korinek, and Nick Buckenham, Chief Judge of EAC. Tom is not angry or upset -- he is just bone tired. Thanks, Tom -- for all you have done.
