Bespalov wins Free Programme at AWAC 2004

Andrey BespalovAndrey Bespalov of Russia took first place in the Free Programme (Programme #1) at the VI Advanced World Aerobatic Championships being held at Ljungbyhed, Sweden. Andrey flew his YAK 55 to an 81.87% of points possible. Second was Glen Dell of South Africa followed by Gerard Bichet of France. The competition has attracted 63 pilots from 20 nations. However, due to a technical problem with one of the Italian aircraft, the competitor list has been reduced to 61. The Italian CAP suffered oil pressure problems during the Q programme and further problems with the engine were discovered on inspection. "Spaghetti Night" --- a tradition at WAC's --- was held for the first time at AWAC and was organised by the Italian Team last evening. The competition continues until Friday, 13 August. Flying of the First Unknown Programme began this morning.
