Solar Impulse Lands in Nanjing After Flight Across China - World Records Ratified by FAIBertrand Piccard landed the fuel-free aircraft Solar Impulse in Nanjing, East of China, on Tuesday at 23:28 local time (15:28 UTC). The Swiss pilot took off from Chongqing, China, at 6:06 am local time on the same day (10:06 pm GMT on 20 April 2015) and flew for 17:22 hours, covering a distance of 1,241 km. The 6th leg of the Round-The-World Solar Impulse mission is thus completed, and the plane has finished its journey in Asia. FAI Invites Nominations for the Breitling Milestone Trophy and the Breitling Youngster AwardWe are now calling for nominations for the FAI-Breitling Awards for 2015: the Breitling Milestone Trophy and the Breitling Youngster Award. Both awards will be presented in September at the Awards Ceremony of the FAI General Conference in Rotterdam (Netherlands), where the winners will be invited and hosted by Breitling. Solar Impulse Reaches Chongqing, ChinaBertrand Piccard, who was at the controls of Solar Impulse, successfully landed at the Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, China, on Tuesday 31 March. He took off from Mandalay, Myanmar, on Monday 30 March at 3:36am local time (9:06pm GMT, 29 March) and landed in China 20 hours and 29 minutes later, thus having flown 1,459 km. FAI World Air Games 2015 to be Staged in DubaiThe FAI announced today that the 2015 edition of the FAI World Air Games has been awarded to the United Arab Emirates and will be held in Dubai. This multi-discipline event will be organised by the Emirates Aerosports Federation and will take place over a period of 12 days in December 2015. It is the only world competition that brings together the various different air sports. 2014 FAI Young Artists Contest winners revealedYoungsters from China, Japan, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and USA are among the winners of the 2014 FAI Young Artists Contest, which every year awards FAI Medals and Diplomas to artists in three age categories from 6 to 17 years old. Competition was fierce, not only because of the quality of the artworks, but also due to the significant rise in participation: the number of FAI Members taking part in the contest soared from 14 in 2013 to 21 in 2014 with the involvement Bulgaria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Finland, India, Italy, Japan, Libya, Lithuania, Mongolia, Nepal, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and USA. Solar Impulse 2 to fly around the world without fuelThe new solar-powered airplane Solar Impulse 2 was presented yesterday in Payerne, Switzerland, by Swiss pilots and cofounders of the project Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg.
