Like every year, the 2013 Young Artists Contest gives the opportunity for budding artists to express themselves artistically about a subject related to aviation. The contest is divided in three age categories (6-9, 10-13, 14-17 years old).

This year, the theme for the contest is "My Favourite Airsports".

Baumgartner breaks the Maximum Vertical Speed World Record

Felix Baumgartner has been recognised today by the FAI for breaking the Maximum Vertical Speed World Record without a drogue or stabilization device.

The 43 year old Austrian Baumgartner was carried high up in the sky by a pressurised capsule attached to a helium balloon. Wearing a specially designed suit, he exited the capsule at an altitude of 21’818 meters (71'581 feet) and achieved a jump during which he reached the staggering record speed of 587 km per hour.

World YAK52 Aerobatic Championships Results Final

The 3rd FAI World Yak-52 Aerobatic Championships concluded in Russia yesterday, the 28th of June, with the completion of the last 2nd Free Unknown flight. The competition was held at Airfield Finam (Bolshoe Gryzlovo), Serpukhov region. Twenty-three pilots competed in the Championships.

The new World Yak-52 Aerobatic Champion is Vladimir Kotelnikov of Russia. In recent years, he has been very active in judging FAI Aerobatic Championships at both the Continental and World level. But he is equally skilled as a pilot and put those skills to good use against a wide variety of Yak pilots.

Russia also captured the Team prize with Belarus in second and Lithuania in third place.

Closing ceremonies and awards-givings will be on Saturday, the 30th of June. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to our friends in Russia for an outstanding organization.

World Gliding Championships Return to the United States!

5964 - UvaldeThis summer in southwest Texas, from the 28th of July to the 19th of August, the sky will be full of sailplanes, and the airwaves filled with the languages of more than 23 different countries, as 120 pilots from around the world compete at the 32nd FAI World Gliding Championships.

Hosted by the Soaring Society of America and sanctioned by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, the Championships will be held at Garner Field, a city owned public airport located three miles east of the central business district of Uvalde, Texas. The facility is named for John Nance Garner, the 32nd Vice president of the United States.

Asian Beach Games 2012 - Medal Ceremony and Results

The final duty of the Haiyang Asian Beach Games organisers is the distribution of medals to the worthy winners. As expected, the ceremony was carried out with great precision; medal winners were led to the podium by beautifully dressed women and then given the coveted Asian Beach Games medal by a number of dignitaries. FAI President John Grubbström gave the medals for the Combined class and CIMA President Richard Meredith-Hardy was given the responsibility for team medals.

The respective flags were raised and the anthems were sung. It was a fitting end to a highly successful event and eyes now turn to 2014 for the 4th Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand. See you there !
