83 pilots from all European Countries are going to compete in the 17th FAI European Hot air Balloon Championship.

The Official list includes 8 Scorer, 7 Target team chief, 16 Target team members.

55th Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett

The launch of the 55th Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennettwill take place in Gap-Tallard in the Hautes Alpes on September 10th or 11th 2011.

Jean-Marc Badan appointed new FAI Secretary General

Jean-Marc_BadanJean-Marc Badan, the previous FAI Sports Director and Deputy to the Secretary General, has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the FAI – the International Air Sports Federation. He will formally take up his appointment in Lausanne, Switzerland, on 1st October 2011.

Latest news from the 2011 LUXGSM - World Balloon Trophy

The first flight took place in the afternoon of 28th with JDG and HWZ at the 2011 LUXGSM - World Balloon Trophy. The ANG was also expected to be flown but it was cancelled as the pilots had to wait a long time for the unstable atmosphere to disappear from the flight area. The results for these tasks are already on the results web page.

The General Briefing took place yesterday afternoon but it was raining very hard outside. All 31 pilots from 12 countries arrived and are ready to compete. Some are new and some came back after some years. There are some new faces around, which is very nice. The weather doesn't look very good but hopefully there will better weather for the weekend.

2011 LUXGSM - World Balloon Trophy

The Echternach city will host from July 27th to 31st the 2011 LUXGSM - World Balloon Trophy sponsorized by Shell Gas (LPG). 31 pilots from Switzerland , Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg , Denmark, France ,Germany, Czek Republic, Lithuania, UK and Netherlands are going to compete in the 2011 LUXGSM - World Balloon Trophy.

World Airship Ranking List (2010)

The Commission Internationale d’Aérostation (CIA), part of FAI, has published the World Pilot Ranking List taking into account the results of the 2 world championships for hot air airships (Russia, France). Airship competitions determine the most performing pilots in a combination of speed races navigational perfection and precision flying. Organisers favours such events generally attracting crowds of 20000 to 30000 spectators.

The Ranking List is led by 4 time world champion J.-A.Besnard from Switzerland.

Annual Meeting of FAI Ballooning Commission, Tokyo 8-12 March , 2011

Approximately 50 delegates from various FAI Member countries attended the 2011 FAI Ballooning Commission meeting last week-end (A detailed summary of this meeting will be published soon).

The meeting was held on the 7th floor of the Aviation Building, downtown Tokyo, just when the earthquake struck Japan.

FAI President hails Tochigi Championship a success

Having returned to Sweden after taking part in the Tochigi Hot Air Balloon International Championship as a private competitor, FAI President Dr. John Grubbström shares his impressions of the competition.

"It has been a very competitive Championship, with the very best pilots in attendance, including World Champion Johnny Petrehn, and I must say that I have been impressed by the high level of the observers: they were really world class."
