The International World Games Association (IWGA) awarded the organisation of The World Games 2021 to Birmingham, Alabama, USA. This decision was announced this morning by IWGA President José Perurena at a press conference in Lausanne, Switzerland, in the presence of FAI representatives.
Birmingham (USA), Lima (Peru) and Ufa (Russia) had presented their bids to host the 11th edition of the multi-sport event, the second largest after the Olympic Games.
"We are happy to showcase our sports in Birmingham in July 2021, and we are sure that we will be offered optimal conditions for our sportsmen and women there. All the bids we received were of very high quality, and it was not easy for us to reach a decision. We have to deliver nothing less than outstanding World Games. We are convinced that Birmingham will exceed these expectations.” José Perurena stated.
The World Games are organised and governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Air sports have been in the programme of The World Games since 1997. The next edition of the Games will take place in Wroclaw, Poland, in 2017 and will include Glider Aerobatics, Parachuting Canopy Piloting and Paramotors.
