On this day: Charles Lindbergh became the first person to fly New York to Paris

Charles Lindbergh_wearing_helmet_with_goggles_upCharles Lindbergh flew solo from New York to Paris on 20/21 May 1927. Celebrate the 90th anniversary of this historic flight – and FAI world record - on 21 May 2017.

Ninety years ago, on 21 May 1927, American aviator Charles Lindbergh set the world alight when he completed the first non-stop solo flight from New York to Paris.

In doing so he set an FAI World Record for ‘Distance in a straight-line without landing’.

FAI Young Artists Contest 2018: 'Flight into the Future'

The FAI has announced the theme for its popular annual FAI Young Artists Contest for 2018. Youngsters between the ages of 6 and 17 are invited to submit drawings and paintings working under the theme of ‘Flight into the Future’.

In 2002, after a gruelling 4-year marathon of hard work, retired Johns Hopkins University metallurgist Maynard Luther Hill began the attempts at crossing the Atlantic with his model aeroplane. On 9th August 2003 "TAM 5" took off in Newfoundland and, 38 hours, 52 minutes and 19 seconds later, reached Ireland near Mannin Beach.

FAI ratifies two world records for ‘revolutionary’ Aerobatics e-plane

Siemens-e-plane 2016_2The FAI has ratified two new speed world records flown with a revolutionary electric-powered Aerobatics plane. Germany’s Walter Extra and Walter Kampsmann set one world record each, on 23 March 2017. Both pilots launched and flew the record from Schwarze Heide Airport near Dinslaken, Germany.
