13th FAI World Helicopter Championship in Germany

The 13th FAI World Helicopter Championship will begin officially with the opening ceremony on 13th of August 2008, at 19:00pm (local time) at Eisenach-Kindel airport, Germany. The main events will take place from Thursday to Sunday, beginning with precision flying at 08:30 am thursday morning.

The offical program highlights are: Wednesday, 13th August 19:00 pm - opening ceremony Thursday, 14th August 08:30 am - precision flight Friday, 15th August 10:00 am - navigation flight Saturday, 16th August 10:00 am - slalom flight

Sunday, 17th August 09:30 am - fender rigging and free style helicopter flying The German Helicopter Club reportet 45 helicopter teams have applied for the event. They are from more than 6 countries (e.g. Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Russia) 46 judges are available for the from all over the world. Some of the judges are from far away - from New Zealand, Belarus and also from the United States of America. We have also judges coming from Europe.

A small crew of six junior judges are on training for the World Air Games 2009, taking place in Turino, Italy, next year, which will be the FAI next major event. We are expecting more than 30 helicopters for the world helicopter championships.

There are more than five different types of helicopters scheduled for the event: Robinson R44 and R22 helicopters, Eurocopter EC120, Schweizer 300, Hughes 369 and as well the famous Mi-2, flown from a Russian team. There are also a couple of different helicopters in static display like a Eurocopter EC135, MBB Bo105 and the Bell UH-1D from the german army.
