Saturday was the most important day of the 15th FAI World Helicopter Championship. As was expected, Russians took the most valuable trophies. In the overall standings, which consist of the sum of the points obtained in the four Navigation, Precision Competition, Fender Rigging and Parallel Slalom competitions, Maxim Puajukas and Oleg Sotnikov won with 1194,1 points (out of 1200 possible). The next steps on the podium were taken by Viktor Korotaev and Vladimir Ziablikov (1183,6 points) and Aleksei Maiorov and Sergei Kostin (1177,4 points). The highest ranked Polish were brothers Marcin and Michal Szamborski who finished at the 8th place (1150 points).
Russia won the team classification before Belarus and Ukraine. The fifth place went to the Polish national team Marysia Muś and Magdalena Woch, Marcin and Michał Szamborski, Jędrzej Wiler and Jacek Ciszewski, Maciej Węgrzecki and Jakub Malec.
In addition to the competition at the airport, the public could admire aerobatic demonstrations. Crowds of aviation enthusiasts watched the breath-taking performances by the best pilots in the world. Special applause was given to Red Bull pilot Siegfried Schwarz, whose fantastic free style flights seemed to defy the laws of physics.
Tomorrow will be the last day of the competition at the Przylepa airport in Zielona Góra. Organisers invite everyone to come from 12am to see the Helicopter Races and demonstration of flights. The awards ceremony and closing of the 15th FAI World Helicopter Championship will take place at 4pm.
