Asian Beach Games 2012 - Task 8 Round the Triangle

2012-asian-beach-games-task8Day three started with the competition site again surrounded by sea fog. This was no problem for the Competition Director who called a briefing at 0700 to give details on the next task; Round the Triangle. This precision task required pilots to fly around a course of kicking sticks, then circle an inflatable pylon before repeating the kicking sticks course in the opposite direction.

The conditions did not interfere with the smooth running of the competition, with all pilots completing the course within 90 minutes. This is a running theme of the event; marshals, scorers, organisers and helpers all know what to do and the organisation of the flying tasks is excellent. If a kicking stick is knocked over, someone is there with a shovel and a spare stick within seconds. It’s impressive.

The provisional results are already printed, just 5 minutes after the event has finished – another real benefit to the instant scoring system in place thanks to Swiss Timing. Both MACAK and SHENG missed one kicking stick, leaving the way open to others to grab the top spots.

The first three places were again taken by Team Thailand, with Kittiphop PHROMMAT winning in a time of 59.3s. The Thai team captain, Capt. Veerayuth DIDYASARIN, could barely hide his joy, walking around the athletes’ area with a wide smile on his face. His pilots are leading the way to the podium !
