The 15th FAI World Helicopter Championship Comes to a Close

As the 15th FAI World Helicopter Championship came to an end on Saturday at the airport Przylep in Zielona Góra, the Russian domination in this spectacular sport was confirmed. Maxim Sotnikov and Oleg Puajukas finished at the top of the general rankings, while Russia also triumphed in the teams, before Belarus and Ukraine. A great 8th place was obtained by the best Polish crew – brothers Marcin and Michal Szamborski. In the junior rankings, Jędrzej Wiler and Jacek Ciszewski came second.

13th FAI European Microlight Championships Declared Open !

For the third time in history, Poland is hosting an FAI Category 1 event for microlights. On Saturday 15 August, the 13th FAI European Microlight Championships were declared open at Kruszyn Airfield in Wloclawek, some 200 km northwest of Warsaw. Teams from 11 nations are competing in 4 valid classes for the title of European champion.

First day of the 15th FAI World Helicopter Championship

The 15th FAI World Helicopter Championship started on Thursday in Zielona Gora, Poland. In the first event of the competition, the navigation, Russians pilots took the first six places. In the overall standings of the Championship the Viktor Korotaev/Vladimir Ziablikov crew top the ranking with a score of 299,7 points. The best result from a Polish team was achieved by Maciej Wegrzecki and Jakub Malec. With a score of 272,0 points they are at the 12th position.

For four days, from today until 16th August, the best helicopter pilots will fight for victory in Przylep, Poland.

In total, 98 pilots from 12 countries participate in the most important rotorcraft event of the year.

4 August 1985: Larry Tudor, the “Part Bird”, who Flew a Record of a 4’343 Meters Gain in Altitude with a Hang Glider

Today marks the 30th anniversary of an FAI Word Record made by an American pilot described as both “Part Bird” and “Skygod” and who is perhaps one of the finest Hang Glider pilot for tandem or solo flights: Larry Tudor. A fidgety Californian, he has been pushing the edges of how far hang gliders can go since the air sport's early days in the 1970s. During his long career, Tudor set a total of ten FAI World Records and the one we are commemorating today has not yet been broken.

Competitors for 6th FAI Sailplane Grand Prix World Final

The countdown to one of the most exciting and competitive sporting events this fall has started. On the 5th of September, 20 of the best pilots in the world will be coming to Varese, Italy, where they will compete for the title of FAI World Sailplane Grand Prix Champion.

The pilots for the 6th FAI Sailplane Grand Prix World Final have qualified for their place by competing in one of the 6th FAI/SGP series qualifying events. There is also a wild card entry from the host country.
