Across America Mission: Solar Impulse ready for third leg from Dallas to St. Louis

After the San Francisco (California) to Phoenix (Arizona) and Phoenix to Dallas (Texas) flights, Solar Impulse is now ready for the third leg of its Across America Mission, from Dallas to St. Louis (Missouri). Take-off is scheduled for today 4am local time (11am Swiss time) and landing for tomorrow 1am local time (8am Swiss time).

Across America Mission: longest flight world record to be submitted to FAI for ratification

The solar-powered airplane Solar Impulse, which departed on 22 May from Phoenix (Arizona), reached Dallas (Texas) yesterday morning, thus achieving a flight that might prove to be the longest flight (Straight distance, pre-declared waypoints) ever made with 1’541 km.

2013 CIA World Hot Air Balloon Ranking List released: Petrehn, Donner and Zeberli at the top

The FAI Ballooning Commission (CIA) has updated the CIA World Hot Air Balloon Ranking List ahead of the start of the 2013 competition season. John Petrehn, Nick Donner and Stefan Zeberli lead the rankings which count 918 pilots (of which about 7% per cent are female) from 39 nations in total.

Two new FAI-Breitling awards for the recognition of young and exceptional talent

The FAI has today announced the creation of two awards bearing the name of Breitling, the Global Sponsor of the FAI since 2012: The Breitling Milestone Trophy and the Breitling Youngster Award. Both awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony of the FAI General Conference, where the winners will be invited and hosted by Breitling.

HG pre-Euro on the way

José Manuel (Juaki) Sánchez García, co-organizer, is proud to announce that for July 2014 the 19th FAI European Hang Gliding Championship will take part in Arangoiti - Navarra – Spain. Therefore this year the test event, Pre-European HG championship in Class 1, is ran.

The dates for the Pre-Euros are in August, 2013 from 12th to the 18th both inclusive.

This year is run an International Open, tagged as a category 2 event in the CIVL calendar, that is open to all pilots. The entries are already available at the web site in the Registration section.

All are invited to join and fly in one of the best flying sites of Spain.
