Dropping in on the open-air stage, performers dressed as skydivers and paramotor pilots flew over the crowd suspended on wires, taking the astounded audience on a theatrical flight over glorious Dubai.

The weatherman says...

IMG 20151130_123311Trevor Kell has three screens spread out in front of him. On them are charts, maps and spreadsheets. It's easy to guess that he has an important job at the FAI World Air Games (WAG) Dubai 2015, perhaps THE most important.

Kell is the Event Forecaster. He's a meteorologist who's worked for the MET office in the UK, and for the last four years has been studying the weather here in the United Arab Emirates at the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS). For the next two weeks, he's part of a team who will use observations from weather stations around the Middle East to map the changing weather and forecast the conditions that competitors can expect here in Dubai.

Two French Pilots M. Seis and C. Ruch and Polish pilot S. Kawa on the Podium of the 6th FAI World Sailplane Grand Prix Championship

FAI-SGP2015-logoWhat an exciting race with all the elements for a great, thrilling finale. Unfortunately, the pilots came under the influence of deteriorating weather quickly. An incoming front spoiled all the opportunities for a flight back home to Varese-airfield. Just 20 kilometers short of the finish line, the three leading teams had to decide for a safe outlanding.

As no one will be able to finish the task, the results of the 6th FAI World Sailplane Grand Prix Championship stay as after yesterday's flight. The gold medal will go to Maximilian SEIS (France), on second place with the silver-medal Christoph RUCH (France) and with Sebastian KAWA (Poland) taking the bronze medal.
