No flying Saturday at the 16th FAI European Gliding Championships in Nitra. Cancelled almost from Briefing. On Sunday, there seemed to be a slim chance so all classes went to the grid and the biggest, the 20m two seaters, and the smallest, thePW5s, were launched. The Club and Standard classes were held on the grid until it could be seen if they could stay up. They couldnt. After scraping around for a time, with the weather closing in on all sides, all classes were finally cancelled as the two flying groups landed back, the field was littered with arrivals, non-starters and tugs. One unlucky pilot landed safely but frustratingly close just beyond the airfield perimeter trees and another was still flying when the day was cancelled so earning a beer from the director for "longest flight" of the day!
