“Flying start”, British Army Gliding Team!

Three of the British Army Gliding Team’s pilots have made a flying start to the 2012 season in Sisteron, France. Veteran of three tours in Afghanistan, Cpl Lee Davidson, while yet to complete his 50km distance flight towards his FAI Silver Badge, flew a number of 300km and a 500km flight in the French Alps, a steep learning curve as he did up to 50% of the flying in the DG1000, mentored by both Lt. Col. Jamie Sage and Major Allan Tribe.

Major Allan Tribe, who competed in Nitra’s 2011 European Gliding Championships, submitted a flight of 720km on Monday the 7th of May, one of the longest flights anywhere in the Alps that day. It was also an excellent day for Jamie and Lee who completed a 560km flight, a personal best for both.

Major Tribe is also Britain’s current Army Sportsman of the Year in recognition of his personal achievements but also for his work with Battle Back, an Adaptive Sport and Adventurous Training programme for wounded, injured and sick personnel from across the Armed Forces. Battle Back programmes are designed to promote confidence and independence and help accelerate physical, psychological and social recovery.
