Day 2 of the World Cup of Indoor Skydiving

An early start for the FS teams today for rounds 5 to 8.  Yesterday left the Bad Boys (Poland) in the lead for the Open Event, Aerokart Deep Blue (France) in the lead of Female FS, but it should be noted that they also have the highest scores in all events.  VFS see SDC Standard with a strong lead. The artistic events are led by Reese Wilson (USA) in Freestyle and Mandrake (USA)  in Freefly.

SDC Standard is a VFS team from Skydive Chicago and the owner, and future host of the 2016 Parachuting Mondial, is a team member. The VFS event was concluded today with SDC taking the title with an average over 8 jumps of 24.2 points, followed by Fly Definition from Poland with an average of 17.4 points and finally AVIX VFS from Mexico with an average of 14.6 points. This was the very final flight ever for SDC Standard who have decided to give up competing together after this meet, both in Indoor and Outdoor Skydiving. They have contributed a lot to the VFS discipline and they will not be forgotten.

The Mexican team AVIX has a genuine pop star and teenage idol amongst its members. Sergio O’Farrill was a member of the KABAH pop band and during his singing career made 8 albums and sold over 10 million records.  He started skydiving 15 years ago while still a member of the band and he spent every weekend when he was not on a gig, skydiving. He told me he spent all his money on the sport! The band is planning a big reunion in 2015.

For the first time ever in the artistic Freestyle event, one competitor, Lise Hernandez-Girouard (Canada), is being accompanied by music for her performance. This is obviously not possible in a regular skydiving competition but is easy to organise in a tunnel.  It adds a new dimension to the event.

Gill and_Elle_-_AustinA special treat was in store for the FAI Officials who were allowed to use the buffer tunnel time that had been reserved in case of re-flights, to test their tunnel skills.  Jurors Graeme Windsor and Niels-Christian Levin Hansen did some FS together, Gillian Rayner, FAI Controller was able to find the feel of air again after many years, Ron Miasnikov, Chief Judge, did some freefly and Claire King, Event Judge for FS, practised sit flying.  A big thank you to the Organiser, Axel Zohmann.
