It isn't everyday that a DZ engulfed in low cloud, high winds and drizzle makes people smile, but there is a sense of euphoria that the World Cup meet concluded yesterday. The weather has currently put paid to any record attemtps, but we do have the medals presentation and closing ceremony taking place later this afternoon, which will include the handing over of the unique trophy designed by UK jumper Paul 'Fletchy Fletch' Fletcher.

The inaugural world event in any discipline will set the first records that future competitors will aim to equal or exceed. At the conclusion of this 1st World Cup some 100+ records have been set in terms of World, Continental and National achievements. The initial records, which are pending verification, are now available on the link above.
The Closing Ceremony encompassing the presentation of the medals and the Winner's trophy, was handled with aplomb by James Hayhurst doing a great job as Master of Ceremonies. As the IPC President Graeme Windsor had to head off to the FAI Head Office before the competition ended, responsibility for the presentation of the Winners' medals devolved to Susan Dixon, the FAI Jury President. Major General (Retd) Christopher Elliott, Director Army Sports Control Board kindly presented the World Cup Winner, Espen Fadnes, with his trophy.
It is usual during the Closing Ceremony to hand over the FAI flag to the organiser of the next World Meet, in this case it would be the 1st World Championships, but as no bid had been submitted, permission was granted by the FAI for Jackie Harper, Secretary of the APA, to retain the flag on a permanent basis.
The evening was rounded off by a Gala Dinner in a local hotel, where everone was treated to a very traditional British roast beef and Yorkshire pudding dinner, followed by the equally traditional apple crumble dessert.
