2010 FAI World Championships for Space Models Successfully Finished

2010 FAI World Championships for Space Models was held at the flying field Pavlovci near spa Vrdnik (Serbia) from 21st to 28th August, 2010. The organizers were Aeronautical Union of Serbia and the Modelling Club "Sirmium" from Sremska Mitrovica. Hosting township was Irig. Participated 23 countries from Europe, Asia and America - total 353 participants and the organizing team of 136 persons!
Competition was in 8 classes in both Junior and Senior classification. These were:
JUNIOR COMPETITION CLASSES: S1A, S3A,S4A,S5B,S6A,S7,S8D & S9A.
SENIOR COMPETITION CLASSES: S1A, S3A,S4A,S5C,S6A,S7,S8E/P & S9A.

2010 FAI World Championships for Space Models

2010 FAI World Championships for Space Models, better known to spacemodellers as 18th World Spacemodelling Championships 2010, shall be hold in Irig (Serbia) from August 21 to 28, 2010.
There are 343 participants from 24 countries registered to August 1, 2010. These are: seniors 170, junors 90, team managers 15, assistants team manager 4, helpers/supporters 40, time-keepers - 15.

New FAI Secretary General Appointed

Stéphane Desprez, former Competition Director of the 2008 Rugby World Cup in France, has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the FAI – the World Air Sports Federation. He will formally take up his appointment in Lausanne, Switzerland, on 1st February 2010.

Proposals for 2010 CIAM Plenary Meeting

Please remember that proposals for the 2010 Plenary Meeting (deadline to FAI: 15 November 2009) need to be submitted on the new 2009 Proposal Form and it is vital that the file name is exactly as illustrated in the CIAM Proposal Submission Guidelines 2009. Both the 2009 proposal form and the Guidelines are available for download on the CIAM Forms page www.fai.org/aeromodelling/documents/forms but are available in the zipped attachment below. 2009 F2 European Championships

Because of circumstances beyond the control of the organisers, classes F2A & F2C of the forthcoming 2009 F2 European Championships in Serbia have been cancelled. The championships for classes F2B and F2D will go ahead as planned.

F2D Shut-off rule clarification

From the 1st of January 2009 it will be mandatory that an engine shut-off be used in F2D. In the event of a fly-away the shut-off must activate and stop the engine. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Wakefield Cup anniversary

The first competition for the oldest trophy in international aeromodelling, the Wakefield Cup, was held on September 29 1928. September 2008 thus marks the 80th anniversary of this trophy for free flight rubber powered aircraft, which is now awarded at World Championships for category F1B.
