FAI Environmental Commission 2016 Annual Meeting - Main Decisions and Discussions

The 2016 Annual Meeting of the FAI Environmental Commission (EnvC) was held on 5 March 2016 in Moscow, Russia.
The meeting was hosted by the Russian Aeroclub at their unique historical building in Moscow, which was named after Valery Pavlovich Chkalov, a Russian aircraft test pilot and a Hero of the Soviet Union.

Please find below the main decisions and discussions during the meeting:

Discussions

  • The Delegates discussed the success of the new newsletter and how to promote environmental messages.
  • They looked into ways of involving more volunteers into the Commission and encouraging EnvC Delegates to participate in more projects.
  • The Commission decided to include new activities, comprising new challenges for electric aircraft and the participation in international symposiums for electric flying, with the long term aim of drawing attention to the need for sporting and recreational aviation to be environmentally sustainable.
  • The draft of the FAI Environmental Code was presented to the Delegates and will be finalised shortly. It will serve both, as a basis for a discussion with CASI on future competitions and the statement of policy for the Commission.

Awards

The 2016 FAI Angelo D’Arrigo Diploma was awarded to the Italian company Alisport s.r.l. The diploma was first awarded in 2014 and aims at recognising and promoting major contributions in the field of environmental and sustainable development, in accordance with the development of a philosophy and a vision of sport aviation that increasingly wants to be respectful of the environment that surrounds it.

Mr. Bernald S. SMITH (USA), former President of the EnvC, was nominated President of Honour.

Next Meeting

The next Annual Meeting of the FAI Environmental Commission will be held on 11 March 2017 in Lausanne.
