The ninth season of 
Australia’s Matt Hall showed the form that made him the overall runner-up in 2015 by winning Qualifying at the 2016 season opener of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in Abu Dhabi on Friday. But he’ll need to push even harder in the Finals on Saturday.

With less than 24 hours to go before the ninth consecutive season opener of the Red Bull Air Race in Abu Dhabi, pilot Luke Czepiela of Poland got a fast start to the season with a top Qualifying time of 1:07.241 seconds in the Challenger Class.

Paul Bonhomme was crowned the 2015 Red Bull Air Race World Champion on Sunday after finishing a close second place in the final race of the season at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway behind Matt Hall, staving off a thrilling challenge from the hard-charging Australian.
Paul Bonhomme won his fourth Red Bull Air Race of the season on Sunday in Fort Worth with a sensational performance in the Texas heat but Australia’s Matt Hall stayed right on his heels in the championship battle with a solid second place finish.
Flying brilliantly on a difficult windswept track set up at the Red Bull Ring high in the Austrian Alps, Matt Hall upset Red Bull Air Race World Championship leader Paul Bonhomme. Local hero Hannes Arch was knocked out in the opening round after hitting a pylon.
Austria’s Hannes Arch won the Red Bull Air Race World Championship stop in the heart of Budapest on Sunday, overcoming scorching heat and a ferocious challenge from championship leader Paul Bonhomme to pull off a stylish victory.
