Bidding Process for the Next FAI World Air Games Open

logo WAG 01 cmyk 200-10The FAI World Air Games is the biggest air sports event in the world. This multi-disciplinary event is the only world competition that brings together the various different air sports and their very best athletes.

The last edition took place in Dubai from 1 to 12 December 2015, hosted by the Emirates Aerosports Federation. The program consisted of the following sports: aerobatics, aeromodelling, airships, amateur-built aircraft, general aviation, gliding, helicopters, hot air balloons, microlights, parachuting, paragliding and paramotors.

The previous editions of the Games were held in Turkey (1997), Spain (2001) and Italy (2009).

The bidding process for the next edition of the FAI World Air Games is now officially open.

Launch of the New FAI World Air Games Website

WAGwebsiteThe FAI has unveiled www.worldairgames.aero, the brand new website for its flagship event, the FAI World Air Games. It is meant to gather in one place all the information and news about the latest and future editions of the Games.

It includes useful content about the last Games that took place in Dubai from 1 to 12 December 2015, such as the results, news, descriptions of the events, press releases and more.

In the future it will also feature updates about the next Games and for example keep visitors up to speed with the bidding process.

“We wish to be able to point all the people interested in our Games to a website which contains comprehensive information and striking visual content” , said FAI President Dr John Grubbström. “We want to use it as a tool to showcase how exciting FAI’s biggest event is.”

FAI World Air Games Dubai Organisers Visit the FAI Head Office

The FAI Executive Board and the organisers of the FAI World Air Games Dubai 2015, including Event Director H.E. Youssif Al Hammadi, held a joint meeting on Saturday at the FAI Head Quarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, following the success of the Federation's flagship event in December.

USA Tops the Final Medal Table of the FAI World Air Games

FAI Medal - Small ImageThe United States has finished at the top of the medal table at the FAI World Air Games Dubai 2015, with 7 gold medals, 4 silver and 6 bronze. USA led a tight battle with France which just missed the top by 1 gold medal and takes second place with 6 gold, 10 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Russia came third with 6 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze.

Marco Wiederkehr flies to Gold at 533km/h

23609679081 7de51e106d_kMarco Wiederkehr is officially the world’s fastest skydiver. He won the Speed Skydiving event here at the FAI World Air Games and set a new world record while doing it.

“I set the new world record on my first jump,” he said after the competition was over. “I hit 533km/h. That’s 140 metres a second, or a kilometre in 6.5 seconds.”

He added: “There are only six people in the world who have gone faster than 500km/h in speed skydiving and they are all here.”

Standing ovation for new Hot Air Ballooning champion

23676876305 16dc99f324_kDavid Strasmann of Germany was presented with a Gold medal last night (December 11) for winning the FAI World Air Games Hot Air Ballooning competition.

A crowd of about 300 spectators and supporters cheered wildly and gave the winner a standing ovation as he accepted his medal.

Formation skydiving and the 90-minute turnaround

23588283171 ae1ed5d6f1_k_copyBriton Simon Guest only has 90 minutes. That's the turnaround time between jumps in the FAI World Air Games 4-way Formation Skydiving competition.

Along with teammates Mike Hayes, Pete Mather and Ady King, they have just completed one of ten 35-second runs in which they managed 18 points.
