Following the announcement of the resumption of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in 2014, the FAI and the Red Bull Air Race management have signed an agreement confirming FAI’s official international recognition of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship as well as detailing the FAI’s support in the form of safety supervision.
“We are delighted to be involved in such a thrilling event that reaches so many people and has such a huge potential for air sports promotion,” FAI President John Grubbström said. “The FAI, as the world federation for airsports recognised by the International Olympic Committee, will sanction the race and provide its well-established and recognised expertise in safety, rules and regulations to the Red Bull Air Race team. I am sure that both organisations, and through them all airsports, will greatly benefit from this collaboration and I look forward to the first race of the season in Abu Dhabi.”
The agreement includes the provision of FAI medals especially designed for the Red Bull Air Race, the inclusion of all races in the FAI Events Calendar, and the official approval by the FAI of the race Rules & Regulations. Furthermore, the FAI will provide a delegate – Mr. Ben Ruijs from the Netherlands - who will attend all events to supervise safety aspects.
