Sports and Disciplines Selected for the FAI World Air Games Dubai 2015 Revealed

The FAI has today announced the list of the 11 sports and 24 disciplines selected for the FAI World Air Games Dubai 2015. More than 1000 athletes, crews and officials will be involved in the multi air sports event. It will be the biggest FAI World Air Games ever organised.

With whom else than Steve Fossett could we open our series of world record celebrations? From 1995 to 2007, the FAI ratified 93 of his performances, which makes him the holder of the largest number of world records. These figures are unequalled, and they are all the more impressive given that they are linked to achievements in four different air sports, namely Ballooning, Airships, Gliding and General Aviation.

Executive Board and Liaison Officers in Dubai to Discuss the FAI World Air Games

FAI officials gathered in Dubai this week to get to know the members of the Organising Committee, the host city and the competition venues of the FAI World Air Games Dubai 2015. A series of meetings were held where the Executive Board and the FAI World Air Games Experts from the Sports Commissions discussed the key issues pertinent to FAI’s flagship event.

Winners of the 2014 FAI Awards and FAI-Breitling Award Announced

The FAI has announced the winners of the 2014 FAI Awards and FAI-Breitling Award, celebrating the outstanding dedication and contribution to air sports.Aerobatics pilot Aude Lemordant,
Breitling Youngster Award recipient Ryan Campbell and Dr. John Grubbström

The ceremony took place last night in Pattaya, Thailand, as part of the 108th FAI General Conference which is held today and tomorrow, and hosted by the Royal Aeronautic Sports Association of Thailand (RASAT).

For the first time, live streaming allowed people from all around the world to be in the heart of the event. Judging from the amount of views and comments, this new feature was a complete success. For those who missed it, the replay of the whole ceremony can be watched on the FAI Youtube Channel.

Ivanoff wins Texas, Bonhomme new championship leader

Frenchman Nicolas Ivanoff had a flawless run in the Final Four on a hot and humid Texas afternoon and won the race with a time of 54.118 seconds with Britain’s Nigel Lamb taking second in 54.253 and Canada’s Pete McLeod finishing third in 54.666.

Brits storm to double victory in Ascot Racecourse

Britain’s Paul Bonhomme and Nigel Lamb won first and second place at the Red Bull Air Race at the Ascot Racecourse on Sunday, sending a sell-out home crowd of 29,000 spectators into a frenzy with thrilling performances in challenging windy conditions. It was the 15th career victory for Bonhomme in his 55th race and also second win of the season worth 12 championship points that helped him cut the world championship lead of Hannes Arch from 13 to just two points. There are three races left in the eight-stop season. The Austrian finished a distant eighth on Sunday. Nicolas Ivanoff of France got his first podium since 2009 by taking third place with a time of 1:11.884.

Duel continues: Arch blasts Bonhomme in Rovinj

Austria’s Hannes Arch came from behind to beat defending champion Paul Bonhomme in a riveting final in the second stop of the eight-leg Red Bull Air Race World Championship on Sunday in Rovinj, Croatia. Arch was trailing Bonhomme at the midway point of the final round by 0.23 seconds but opened the throttle with a blistering second lap on the obstacle course set up on the Adriatic Sea to get his eighth career victory. Japan’s Yoshihide Muroya got the first podium of his career, taking third place on a challenging course in the bay off Rovinj that was made even more difficult when the winds coming from the south shifted to from the west.
