WORLD AIR GAMES 2009


The FAI Executive Board has taken a decision to further modernise the World Air Games concept and plans are being made to launch a new bidding process for the 2009 World Air Games.

Earlier this year, the FAI Executive Board confirmed the important role the World Air Games would play in the future as a federative force, bringing together all air sports. Now that the FAI Centenary project was complete, the Board had decided to explore new ways in which the World Air Games concept could be developed to become FAI's "flagship event", even more attractive for potential hosts, as well as for the top athletes who would compete to become "World Air Games Champions" – the Champions of the Champions.

The FAI is working on this project with TSE Consulting, a well-known specialized sports consultancy with offices in the USA, UK, Bahrain, China and Switzerland. TSE Director Lars HAUE-PEDERSEN and Project Manager Caroline ANDERSON recently made a presentation in Lausanne to FAI Air Sport Commission representatives and the FAI Executive Board. They will carry out a detailed review and testing of the World Air Games concept among potential hosts, and help FAI to develop a new bid presentation package and tender documents by the end of September 2006.

The new bid process will be launched in October 2006 at the FAI General Conference in Santiago de Chile. The two phases of the process will be conducted in close liaison with Air Sport Commissions, and TSE proposes that an ad hoc FAI committee of 10-15 persons should select the organizers of the World Air Games 2009 at a high-profile event in Lausanne scheduled for the end of May 2007.

FAI President Pierre PORTMANN added : "The World Air Games could be one of the biggest sporting events of 2009. It is important to the FAI to handle all aspects of promoting and organizing the Games properly. The Games will be magnificent to see and a perfect way to promote our sports, and we are happy to be working with TSE to ensure that we will have an event that works to the benefit of our hosts."

JEUX MONDIAUX DE L'AIR 2009


Le Comité exécutif de la FAI a décidé de poursuivre la modernisation du concept des Jeux Mondiaux de l'Air, et planifie le lancement d'une nouvelle procédure de sélection pour les Jeux Mondiaux de l'Air en 2009.

Au début de cette année, le Comité exécutif de la FAI a confirmé le rôle essentiel que les Jeux Mondiaux de l'Air revêtiront à l'avenir pour fédérer et rassembler tous les sports aériens. Une fois le Centenaire de la FAI terminé, le Comité exécutif a décidé d'explorer de nouvelles voies pour développer le concept des Jeux Mondiaux de l'Air, en faire l'événement "porte-drapeau" de la FAI, qui soit encore plus attractif pour les organisateurs potentiels et pour les athlètes de haut niveau qui se disputeront le titre de "World Air Games Champions" - les Champions des Champions.

La FAI travaille actuellement sur ce projet en étroite collaboration avec TSE Consulting, société spécialisée reconnue dans le monde du sport international, qui dispose de représentations aux USA, en Grande-Bretagne, à Bahrain, en Chine et en Suisse. Lars HAUE-PEDERSEN, Directeur de TSE Consulting, et Caroline ANDERSON, Cheffe de projet, ont fait récemment une présentation à Lausanne devant les représentants des Commissions sportives de la FAI et le Comité exécutif. Après une analyse détaillée et un test du concept de Jeux Mondiaux de l'Air auprès d'organisateurs potentiels, TSE Consulting aidera la FAI à développer, d'ici la fin septembre 2006, de nouveaux documents de présentation et d'appel d'offres.

Lancée en octobre 2006 lors de la Conférence générale de la FAI à Santiago du Chili, la procédure de sélection se déroulera en deux étapes, et en étroite collaboration avec les Commissions sportives FAI. TSE a proposé à la FAI de constituer un comité ad hoc dont les 10 à 15 membres seront chargés de sélectionner le futur organisateur des Jeux Mondiaux de l'Air 2009 lors d'un grand événement planifié pour la fin du mois de mai 2007 à Lausanne.


M. Lars HAUE-PEDERSEN, Directeur de TSE Consulting, a déclaré que "Ce projet est passionnant, et qu'il est positif de voir une fédération vraiment prendre le temps de concevoir sa procédure de sélection avec les intérêts de ses futurs partenaires en tête. De son côté, le Président de la FAI Pierre PORTMANN a ajouté que "Les Jeux Mondiaux de l'Air pourraient devenir l'un des plus grands événements sportifs en 2009. Il est important que la FAI traite correctement tous les aspects de la promotion et de l'organisation des Jeux; ils seront spectaculaires et représenteront une excellente manière de promouvoir nos sports. Nous nous réjouissons de collaborer avec TSE afin que cet événement soit également positif pour les futurs organisateurs."
