FAI eSHOP - NEW ARTICLES AVAILABLE

We have the pleasure in informing you that the following new articles are now available for sale on the FAI eSHOP :

Ballooning (CIA)
In order to celebrate the hundredth anniversary
of the "Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett", the FAI Ballooning Commission is now proposing a new, limited-edition T-shirt with long sleeves.

Gliding (IGC)
New Stickers and Patches* with IGC Logo are now available, as well as the DVD "Gladiators of the Sky", showing exciting images of the 2006 New Zealand Sailplane Grand Prix (available in PAL or NTSC).

Aerobatics (CIVA)
New Stickers* with CIVA Logo are now available.

Hang Gliding / Paragliding (CIVL)
New Stickers and Patches* with CIVL Logo are now available.

TherMap - THERMAL MAPS FOR ALPINE AREA

During the 29th FAI World Gliding Championships in Eskilstuna (SWE), the "TherMap"-Project was presented on 14 June 2006 at the OSTIV Conference (International Scientific and Technical Soaring Organisation).

"TherMap" is a private initiative of Dr Beda Sigrist, a senior Swiss glider pilot with solid background in engineering and computing. Impressed by the success of meteorological forecasting tools RegTherm/TopTherm, Dr Sigrist started investigating how topological data currently available could be used in his "TherMap" model.

Digital maps produced with "TherMap" allow visualizing the formation of potential thermals at a given date and time, assuming that local weather conditions do not interfere with the model. Maps for Alpine regions of South-East France, Switzerland and Austria are currently available free-of-charge on Internet.

TherMap - CARTES THERMIQUES POUR REGIONS ALPINES

Dans le cadre des 29èmes Championnats de monde de vol à voile à Eskilstuna (SWE), le projet "TherMap" a été présenté le 14 juin 2006 lors la Conférence de l'OSTIV - Organisation Scientifique et Technique Internationale du Vol à Voile.

Le projet "TherMap" est une initiative privée du Dr Beda Sigrist, un pilote de vol à voile suisse disposant de solides bases techniques et scientifiques. Impressionné par le succès des outils de prévision méteorologique Regtherm/Toptherm, le Dr Sigrist a commencé à investiguer les possibilités d’utiliser, dans son modèle "TherMap", les données topographiques actuellement disponibles.

Les cartes digitalisées produites au moyen de l'outil "TherMap" permettent de visualiser le potentiel d'ascendances pour une date et une heure donnée, en faisant abstraction des interférences éventuelles dues à la météorologie du jour. A ce jour, des cartes pour les régions alpines couvrant le sud-est de la France, la Suisse et l'Autriche peuvent être téléchargées gratuitement sur Internet.
