Each FAI Air Sport Commission (ASC) has determined how athletes should be selected, so as to gather together the very best competitors from as many FAI countries as possible. Selection methods used by ASCs include International Ranking Lists, results of previous championships, and special selection events.
Each athlete (including reserves) will be approved by his/her respective ASC and NAC before receiving an official invitation (Reference : World Air Games General Rules). FAI Air Sport Commissions are responsible for making selections, and the FAI Secretariat will provide administrative support and coordination between ASCs and NACs during the whole selection process. Once approved by their respective ASCs and NACs, selected athletes will receive from the FAI Head Office a “Notification of Selection” inviting them to confirm that they accept their selection and commit to participating. They will then receive an official invitation to the World Air Games 2009, as well as password-protected access to a dedicated Internet page allowing them to enter their personal information online. The whole selection process will be completed by 31 December 2008, by which date every selected athlete should have received the official invitation. As soon as they are available, lists of athletes invited to compete in the World Air Games 2009 will be published on the World Air Games Internet pages dedicated to each air sport.
