In close cooperation with the Departments of Education and Culture of the Province of Turin, the World Air Games 2009 Organising Committee invited back in February 2008 the students of Piedmont’s High Schools to participate in a contest to design the medals for the World Air Games 2009.
With some 90 design proposals, the contest was a great success and contributed to bringing the young people of Turin closer to the World Air Games 2009 and to air sports in general. Inaugurated on 15 September, a special one-month exhibition at the Art Hall of the Certosa di Collegno gave the public the opportunity to admire the students’ work.
During a ceremony held at the Town Hall of Collegno on 30 September 2008, the President of the Jury, the Turinese artist Ugo Nespolo, announced the results of the contest and awarded prizes to the winners : Fiódor Fogliato (1st prize), Leardo Sciacoviello (2nd prize) and Marika Saura (3rd prize). Led by Mr. Ugo Nespolo, the Jury was made up of Mrs Silvana Accossato (Mayor of Collegno), Messrs Livio Berruti (Olympic Champion), Umberto d’Ottavio (Assessor for Education of the Province of Turin), Giuliano Molineri (CEO of Giugiaro Design), Marco Picasso (Director of Graphicus magazine), Giuseppe Leoni (President of the Aero-Club of Italy) and Pierre Portmann (FAI President).
During the FAI Awards Ceremony held on 2 October 2008 in Saint-Vincent (Aosta Valley), the design of the World Air Games 2009 Medal was unveiled for the first time to the FAI Delegates, who warmly applauded the art work created by Fiódor Fogliato.
