Hot air balloons opening ceremony at Mondovi

The hot air balloon competition is being staged a short distance away from Turin aeritalia airfield in the beautiful town of Mondovi. This region is well known in ballooning circles and provides an excellent setting for the hot air balloon competitions.

The opening ceremony took place in the middle of the town and was watched by a large crowd of locals as well as FAI officials, members of the Local Organising Committee and many others. The competitors were introduced individually before standing together for photographs. Many are old friends who meet around the world at other FAI international competitions and include pilots from coutries all around the world including; Brazil, Japan, USA and Denmark.

After a procession through the streets headed by the local police, competitors and officials gathered around a square in hot sunshine to mark the official opening of the competition. The Mayor of Mondovi, Mr. Stefano VIGLIANE, welcomed competitors to the World Air Games and wished them the best of luck for the forthcoming week.

FAI Ballooning Commission President Mr. Jean-Claude WEBER joined Mr. Vigliane and also FAI President Mr. Pierre PORTMANN in welcoming all pilots and their crews. He wished them luck and good fortune for the different tasks they will undertake in the next week.
