2016 meetings greece

Three different meetings took place in Heraklion, on the Greek island of Crete, from Thursday to Saturday:  Air Sport Commission Presidents, Active Member Presidents and Executive Board meeting.

Organised by the Hellenic Aeronautical and Airsports Federation, these meetings gave participants an opportunity to discuss  current projects and topics. These included the FAI World Air Games 2015 in Dubai, the next edition of the event and further development of the FAI Air Games concept; participation in multi-sports events; a common FAI strategy on drones racing sports; an update on the implementation of the FAI Sports and Branding Strategy; the 2016 and 2017 FAI General Conferences and information from the FAI Head Office.

A special ceremony brought everyone together on Friday evening: the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the world record flight of the human-powered Daedalus plane in 1988 by Kanellos Kanellopoulos, the pilot, and Dr. John Langford, the project’s original team leader. The record featured a 34 meter wingspan and 32 kg weight plane built with newest technologies at that time. The performance is one of the longest standing records in FAI history.
