2014 Plenary: 1st report

The 2014 CIVL Plenary ended in Bali this February 23rd. Some 40 delegates and alternate delegates representing 27 countries were present. Also many observers from Indonesia and Singapore were present. Four days of work and many decisions. Here is a quick sum-up. More later!

Green airsports honoured with new environmental award

Angelo d ArrigoThe FAI Environmental Commission (EnvC) has established the Angelo d’Arrigo Diploma, a new FAI environmental award which aims at recognising and promoting major contributions in the field of environmental and sustainable development, in accordance with the development of a philosophy and a vision of sport aviation that increasingly wants to be respectful of the environment that surrounds it.

Just like the PG Competition Class requirements were adjusted, here is the final version of CIVL GAP to be presented to the Plenary as amendment to the version published with the agenda.

Annecy World Hang Gliding: Qualification Criteria and Number of Pilots

In 2011, the qualification criteria for all Category 1 hang gliding events were modified by the Plenary. The idea was to make criteria harder, so safety would be improved. Unfortunately, the Plenary did not realize that the new requirements, if adapted to Class 1 championships, are just not working for Class 2, 5 and Sport, and for Women Class 1 specific championships.

Paragliding Pre-worlds concludes successfully in Colombia

The Paragliding Pre-Worlds in Roldanillo, Colombia, came to a successful conclusion last week.  Four tasks were flown in 6 days and 147 pilots had the opportunity to try out CIVL’s experimental ‘Final Glide Decelerator’ techniques, the conical end of speed section (CESS) and the arrival altitude time bonus (AATB).

No Hang gliding Euro this summer

When the CIVL made the difficult decision to cancel the European Championships in Spain this summer, we made it a high priority to look for an alternated location/organizer for this event.  We know that the European Championships is an important event for pilots in Europe as well as other nations that often bring visiting pilots.
