The FAI is pleased to announce the appointment of Susanne Schödel as its new Secretary General, starting on 1 March 2014. Schödel, a 41 year old German native, combines experience in airsports, management of non-profit making organisations and political matters.

This year the focus is on a smaller number of events and an increased emphasis on supporting the events and creating a great image of these events which will benefit the events themselves, the FAI and Breitling.

FAI loses past President André Dumas

The FAI has recently lost one of its most eminent members: Andre O. Dumas, who presided over the Federation from 1972 to 1974. He died on 17 September 2013 at the age of 90. Dumas’s eventful and busy life was marked by his passion for and devotion to aviation, a world to which he rendered great services for many years within several organisations beside the FAI.

Red Bull Air Race back on stage in 2014 - FAI to collaborate to the race

The resumption of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship was announced on Tuesday in Malaysia during a press conference attended by FAI President John Grubbström and FAI Secretary General Jean-Marc Badan. The FAI will partner the Red Bull Air Race management and provide safety specialists for the Championship which will start in February 2014.

107th FAI General Conference

The sessions of the 107th FAI General Conference were held in Royale Chulan Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 4 and 5 October 2013.

More than 150 delegates from 39 Active, 1 Associate, 1 Temporary Member Countries and 2 Affiliated Members were present, as well as FAI elected Officers, Presidents of Honour, Companions of Honour and delegates appointed by Presidents of Commissions and Observers.

The General Conference was officially opened on Thursday 3 October during a ceremony where FAI Awards and FAI Breitling Awards were presented.

For the first time, an electronic voting system was used during the sessions of the FAI General Conference. This new technology allowed a considerable gain of time during votes and will be re-used in the future.

FAI Secretary General Badan to step down from his position - Search for his replacement underway

The FAI has announced that Jean-Marc Badan is to step down as FAI Secretary General, effective 30 November 2013. The FAI Executive Board has created a high priority working group to search for his replacement. Candidates are invited to submit their written application and CV by Wednesday 25 September 2013 (12.00 CET) at the latest by e-mail to sec.gen@fai.org.
