Results of the 108th FAI General Conference

108th FAI General ConferenceThe Delegates from the FAI Member Countries participated in the 108th FAI General Conference which took place in Pattaya, Thailand, on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 October 2014. The event was successfully organised by the Royal Aeronautic Sports Association of Thailand (RASAT) which is a Member of the FAI since 1979.

The results of the conference, such as the reelection of FAI President Dr. John Grubbström, are outlined below. The full minutes will be published on the FAI website at the beginning of 2015.

Winners of the 2014 FAI Awards and FAI-Breitling Award Announced

The ceremony took place last night in Pattaya, Thailand, as part of the 108th FAI General Conference which is held today and tomorrow, and hosted by the Royal Aeronautic Sports Association of Thailand (RASAT).

For the first time, live streaming allowed people from all around the world to be in the heart of the event. Judging from the amount of views and comments, this new feature was a complete success. For those who missed it, the replay of the whole ceremony can be watched on the FAI Youtube Channel.

DAeC and DMFV Meet with FAI in Lausanne

aeromodelling2On 29 September 2014, the German Aeroclub (Deutscher Aero-Club - DAeC), the German Aeromodelling Association (Deutscher Modellflieger-Verband - DMFV) met with the FAI for an in-depth discussion in Lausanne. The objective of the meeting was to bring out common interests in aeromodelling at international level. It was agreed to continue developing the areas of constructive collaboration that had already been identified.

FAI recognition for Air14 Director’s "outstanding work"

GS Ian Logan with the FAI Diplôme d’Honneur during the “Inspiration Dinner” organised by the airshow committee in Payerne, Switzerland, on Saturday 30 August 2014. The award was attributed “In warm appreciation for his outstanding work as Meeting Director of Air14 and for the excellent promotion of aviation to the public during the airshow in Payerne”.

FAI World Air Games 2015 to be Staged in Dubai

FAI-UAE-Signature-WAG 04 June 2014 9The FAI announced today that the 2015 edition of the FAI World Air Games has been awarded to the United Arab Emirates and will be held in Dubai. This multi-discipline event will be organised by the Emirates Aerosports Federation and will take place over a period of 12 days in December 2015. It is the only world competition that brings together the various different air sports.

Passing of FAI Past President Clifton Von Kann

FAI President of Honour General Clifton Von Kann died peacefully on 15 January 2014 in Washington D.C., USA, at the age of 98. He held high positions in the US military and civilian aviation and presided over the FAI for two years from 1988 to 1990.

2014 FAI Young Artists Contest winners revealed

2.1 OTGONBAYAN MGL 1Youngsters from China, Japan, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and USA are among the winners of the 2014 FAI Young Artists Contest, which every year awards FAI Medals and Diplomas to artists in three age categories from 6 to 17 years old.

Competition was fierce, not only because of the quality of the artworks, but also due to the significant rise in participation: the number of FAI Members taking part in the contest soared from 14 in 2013 to 21 in 2014 with the involvement Bulgaria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Finland, India, Italy, Japan, Libya, Lithuania, Mongolia, Nepal, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and USA.

FAI President of Honour Dr. Hanspeter Hirzel passes away

Dr HirzelIt is with deep regret that the FAI announces the death of Dr. Hanspeter Hirzel, FAI President  from 1992 to 1994. He passed away peacefully in Switzerland on 2 April at the age of 76 years. His presence will be missed by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and his dedication to the FAI, air sports and aviation in general to which he contributed greatly throughout his life.
