Competitors for 6th FAI Sailplane Grand Prix World Final

The countdown to one of the most exciting and competitive sporting events this fall has started. On the 5th of September, 20 of the best pilots in the world will be coming to Varese, Italy, where they will compete for the title of FAI World Sailplane Grand Prix Champion. The pilots for the 6th FAI Sailplane Grand Prix World Final have qualified for their place by competing in one of the 6th FAI/SGP series qualifying events. From August 20 to August 29, 2015, the 60 best aerobatic pilots in the world will gather in Châteauroux, in the Center region of France, to compete for the most coveted of all aerobatic titles. The partially renewed French team will defend its four titles won in the Individual, Team, Male, and Female categories during the last world championships in Texas in 2013. The French Aeronautical Federation (FFA) is organizing this sporting event and will also offer the public a number of attractions on the ground to complete the aerobatic performances. Following the invitation from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Organising Committee to 35 International Federations, the FAI has selected Paragliding as a potential additional sport. FAI, the FAI Hang Gliding and Paragliding Commission (CIVL), the Japan Aeronautic Association and the Japan Hang and Paragliding Federation have worked on a proposal which features Paragliding Accuracy and Paragliding Cross Country. In a symbolic gesture, today the torch of the FAI World Air Games Dubai 2015 was lit and handed over today by FAI to the Emirates Aerosports Federation (EAF) as the Games Organising Committee. The ceremony took place at the Olympic Museum located in the city of Lausanne, Switzerland, where FAI has its headquarters. It featured distinguished guests from the air sports community and beyond.
