Main decisions taken at the 2013 CIACA Annual Meeting

On Saturday 13 April 2013 the members of the FAI Amateur-Built and Experimental Aircraft Commission (CIACA) gathered in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Future competitions

CIACA Presidents hopes to attend the Human Powered Aircraft (HPA) Icarus Cup 2013 which will take place in Sywell (GBR) from 19 to 28 July 2013. This competition has been sanctioned by the FAI as an FAI 2nd Category Event.

2015 FAI World Air Games: the amateur built and experimental activities organised by CIACA during this competition will depend on the location of the Games and the competition format.

Sporting Code

CIACA will formally request that CASI (FAI Air Sport General Commission) transfers control of S13 (Solar) and S11 (Human Powered) to the commission.

First drafts of CIACA Sporting Codes for 1) Workmanship, 2) Eco (economy) championship, 3) Air race (with experimental/amateur aircraft) were submitted and will be further revised by the Sporting Code working group.

Catherine DARTOIS will head a working group to draw up "Workmanship" rules for competition.

The Working Group will also consider:

• records for amateur built and experimental aircraft.
• Solar vs. Electrical flight: what constitutes solar flight as opposed to electrical, specifically electrical energy gained by solar power. The Commission agreed that a solar flight is one in which the stored electrical energy on board is at least equal on landing to that on take-off.
• the removal of the "assisted" class since many solar aircraft are now able to self-launch.
• pre-declared and also open distance flights, especially how to control and measure flights when an Official Observer is not present.

Awards

The Henri Mignet Diploma was awarded to Jean-Pierre MARIE and Jean-Pierre Delage from France.
