Solar Impulse 2, with Swiss pilot and co-founder André Borschberg in the cockpit, touched down in Dayton International Airport in Ohio after a 16 hours and 34 minutes flight, landing on 22 May at 03:56 CET (01:56 UTC, 21:56 Local Time). This marks the completion of the third leg of their US journey and 12th leg in total of the pioneering project to circumnavigate the globe without a drop of fuel.

With the successful completion of the 11th leg of the circumnavigation the aircraft has reached the center of the US country.

2014 08_22_7thFlight_Ackermann_NAK_1937_thumbSolar Impulse 2 (Si2), with Swiss pioneer Bertrand Piccard in the cockpit, took off from Phoenix Goodyear Airport, Arizona, at 12:05 CET (10:05 UCT, 03:05 Local Time) towards Tulsa International Airport, Oklahoma, in order to continue the crossing of the central US landmass. The 11th leg is expected to last about 17,5 hours.

Si2 Over_Golden_Gate_BridgeAfter over 62 hours of flight, Swiss pioneer Bertrand Piccard landed safely at 08:44am CET (06:44 UTC) at the forecasted destination in Mountain View! By completing the 9th leg Solar Impulse 2 has successfully crossed the Pacific Ocean – the first flight ever with a solar-powered airplane in aviation history and a big step towards accomplishing the around-the-world flight!

Swiss pioneers and ambassadors for clean technology, Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, left the Kakaeloa Airport in Hawaii at 6:15am Hawaiian time to continue their spectacular journey of the first ever solar flight around-the-world. The next days will see the completion of the pioneering adventure as the Solar Impulse 2 (Si2) heads back to its starting point to Abu Dhabi.

USA Tops the Final Medal Table of the FAI World Air Games

FAI Medal - Small ImageThe United States has finished at the top of the medal table at the FAI World Air Games Dubai 2015, with 7 gold medals, 4 silver and 6 bronze. USA led a tight battle with France which just missed the top by 1 gold medal and takes second place with 6 gold, 10 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Russia came third with 6 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze.
