FAI World Records - A Case Study

A major activity of the FAI is the homologation and registration of aeronautical and astronautical world records; each year the FAI Secretariat issues around 300 certificates to successful claimants. To date the FAI database of world records contains over 15,000 entries, the majority of which are available on the FAI website http://records.fai.org FAI notifies its members of new world records by issuing the details: Claim number : 15142 Sub-class :F1N (Indoor Glider) Category: F1: Free flight Type of record : N°118-d: Duration (ceiling over 30m)

FAI marks ten years in Lausanne

December 1st is the anniversary of the FAI Secretariat moving to Lausanne, Switzerland from its previous seat in Paris, France. The Secretariat moved in 1998 to its present home on Avenue Mon Repos, near to the centre of the city and has remained at the same address since.

CIMA (Microlight) Commission Meeting 2008

The FAI Commission Internationale de Micro-Aviation (CIMA) held its annual plenary meeting in Lausanne over the weekend of November 14/15. President Tomas BACKMAN (SWE) was re-elected to serve for another year.
Decisions taken during the meeting included the selection of athletes for the World Air Games 2009 in Turin and the creation of a female class in PF1 (footlaunched solo paramotors), giving female pilots the opportunity to set world records in their own class.

CIVA (Aerobatics) and GAC (General Aviation) Commission Meetings

The FAI Aerobatics Commission (CIVA) and the FAI General Aviation Commission (GAC) conducted their annual meetings recently. Mike HeuerThe CIVA meeting was held in Salzburg (AUT) over the weekend of October 25/26. CIVA President Mr. Mike HEUER (USA) was re-elected and the next meeting was set for October 2009 in Wisconsin (USA).

The Medal of the World Air Games 2009 has been selected

In close cooperation with the Departments of Education and Culture of the Province of Turin, the World Air Games 2009 Organising Committee invited back in February 2008 the students of Piedmont’s High Schools to participate in a contest to design the medals for the World Air Games 2009.

102nd FAI General Conference

The 102nd FAI Annual General Conference was held on 3 and 4 October 2008 at Saint-Vincent, in the heart of the magnificent Aosta Valley (ITA). Hosted by the Aero-Club of Italy, the FAI General Conference has been organised in great style by the Aosta Valley Region, in close cooperation with the World Air Games 2009 Organising Committee. Delegates representing 41 countries, 10 Air Sport and 4 Technical Commissions gathered to debate matters affecting air sports.

World Air Games 2009 : Microlights Test Event Completed

The World Air Games Test Event for Microlights (Weight-shift controlled and Paramotors) was successfully held on 27 and 28 September at the Torino-Aeritalia Airport (ITA). Fourteen pilots flew the spectacular Pylon Race event with their Weight-shift controlled microlights (trikes), and seventeen paramotor pilots competed in the Basket Slalom, Clover Leaf and Dragon Tail attractive tasks. 2008 FAI Competition Calendar in full swing

The 2008 FAI Championship calendar is well underway with 36 of the 48 category 1 events now successfully completed. This calendar comprises 25 World, 16 Continental and 7 other International Championships, staged in all six of FAI’s continental regions. FAI Secretary General Max BISHOP was invited to the 1st FAI European Paragliding Accuracy Championship in Niska Banja, Serbia.

FAI signs up to WADA's ADAMS

FAI recently signed up as a fully integrated user of the World Anti-Doping Agency's Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS). This system is coming of age with added functionality and easy-to-use features which will enable FAI competitors to minimise the impact on them of complying with the World Anti-Doping Code.

World Air Games 2009 : Hang Gliding & Paragliding Test Events Completed

Paragliding AccuracyThe World Air Games Test Events for Hang Gliding and Paragliding were successfully held on 18 and 19 August at Avigliana (ITA). Athletes invited to this two-day test event competed in four spectacular disciplines : Hang Gliding Speed Run, Hang Gliding Aerobatics, Paragliding Accuracy and Paragliding Aerobatics (Solo and Syncro).
